Hello world!

Welcome to Epsom Baptist Church’s blog-site. It feels like the Christmas holidays are only just behind us, and lent is looming. As a church we don’t tend to base our services around lectionary readings. And so, for lent, I thought it would be good to explore different biblical aspects of the cross. In particular, I want to explore these aspects of the cross (for example, the cross as God’s redeeming of humanity from its slavery to sin) from the perspective of Jewish background, the Graeco-Roman context, and resonance with today. When i shared my intention with a colleague, he told me that Baptists already know enough about the cross. Personally, I’m not so sure. An exploration of the cross can certainly not be contained in one series of eight or so sermons. I hope to be a bit provocative with these messages, opening up a new appreciation for God’s work for and amongst us.
